i'm updating...

This is what I have been up to.  Mikado rules my life and I have developed an unrelenting love for sushi.  I got a full-time job with Raymond James as an Equity Research Associate in Houston, TX—no more public accounting for me.  Come July 2, 2007, my life as an adult will finally begin (and end).  I TA-ed for BA101 this semester— what a power trip.  I tutored (with Leroy) 4th and 5th graders at Heart House this semester— realized how fortunate I was to have a mom who made me memorize my multiplication tables.  I realized I’d rather stay at home on the weekends watching Netflix movies and pre-recorded episodes of Studio 60, GG, OTH, and Grey’s than dress up and party downtown.  But props to those who were successful in dragging me downtown, that must mean I really do love you.  I went skydiving— for the first and last time—my parachute got tangled and I thought I was going to die.  Record low in concerts— only ACL and Fall Out Boy.  However, I did find a new favorite band…Gym Class Heroes. I went skiing in Colorado with the best of friends. =) But I am excited to try out snowboarding come next time.  So….that’s that….until next time!

picture post!

For the past two months, I have enjoyed....

Becoming a tourist and seeing all the free museums and monuments Washington DC has to offer....

Spending my "spring break" with my favorite people in the world.....

Being mesmerized by beautiful cherry blossoms....

Visiting national parks...

Visiting Debbie in Boston!

(and bumping into Carol Choy hours before leaving)

As much as I like it here in DC, I can't wait to get back to Texas where I can eat  and lounge

 ALL DAY LONG!!!!

See you in 12 days!

Hello from DC!

So I’m finally living and working in Washington DC!!!  We’ll….McLean, Virginia that is.  I miss Texas and everybody back at home so much!  It's only been a few weeks, but I can't wait to come home!  So here’s what I’ve been up to…

23 Hour Road Trip

With a packed-full car, a bag of fruit and Triscuits, and 2-pages of Mapquest directions, me and Leroy embarked on our 1500 mile road trip through Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Virginia.  Road trip music consisted of Aqualung, Michael Buble, Death Cab, Stars, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Black Eye Peas and what I like to call “random pop.”  We stopped numerous times to use the restroom.  But never ate at a Cracker Barrel (that’s for the trip back).  We pulled into Steve’s house at 1:00 am where I was greeted by my dear Janet’s gorgeous face.

Getting to DC: Success

Crisis Management 101: Finding a place to stay the day you arrive

In January, I found a place to live in off of Craigslist.  My friend, Debbie, checked out the place for me and I got her stamp of approval.  When I arrived to move in, the person I was in contact with was unreachable by phone, the front door was unlocked (so we walked straight in), a random guy was sleeping in the room that was to be mine, and a rabid dog would not stop biting my foot.  I went back later and got my deposit back, but not my first month’s rent.  I’m very upset about that.  I eventually found a new place to live (again, off of Craigslist) that day.  I now live in the backhouse (the main and back are connected) of an Asian couple with 3 adorable children.  Living with me is a nice car salesman and a design student.  I have my own room (with two beds) and share a bathroom; the rest of the house is very home-y.  I like it so much better

Housing in DC: Success, -$510

Craving Work & Overtime

I anticipated (and wanted) to work 55+ hours a week during my internship.  But instead, I’ve been sitting in my cubicle doing WBLs (web-based learning) modules.  Everyone has been telling me that the first week and a half is always really boring and you don’t do much.  Well, they are right.  I’m looking forward to next week where I’ll hopefully get assigned to projects and engagements.

Figuring out if I like tax accounting: Pending

I'm a Consumer Whore

Yesterday, I waited in line with Kent at Auntie Anne's (for all you deprived ones, it's a pretzel shop) at Stonebriar mall to get my hands on a cinnamon sugar pretzel.  It's ridiculous the lengths that people will go (myself included) to satisfy their sweet tooth/pretzel cravings.  After 15 minutes, I decided that waiting in line for 1 pretzel was not a good maximization of my time and utility.  But 2 pretzels would be.  (see diagram below)

So after 22 minutes, I bought myself two cinnamon sugar pretzels.

But I got too greedy and couldn't finish the second one.  I had to ask the lady at the dog accessories stand for a plastic bag.  I came home from the mall with a new coat, scarf, and a cinnamon sugar pretzel wrapped in paw printed bag.  I ate the pretzel this afternoon, but it was not as soft and warm as the one I had yesterday.

Moral #1: I love Auntie Anne's cinnamon sugar pretzels very much.

Moral #2: ECO420k was not a complete waste of my time.

Moral #3: I am greedy.

who did i see sunday night?

oh.....STARS! (the band that wouldn't play Calendar Girl...so much for learning half the lyrics)  and who's that other band?  Death Cab for Cutie?

Christine, Wei-Fu, Leroy, Emily                         Leroy, Emily

and so there it is. another vacuous xanga posting with fluffy pictures of beautiful people and blurry bands.  (btw, i have no idea what vacuous means)
